The degree of availability of creative reading skills in the linguistic activities of reading lessons included in the Arabic Book (Logaty Al-Jmelah), Grade 9, Basic Education, Sultanate of Oman

Abstract

The present study aimed to identify the creative reading skills which should be developed in students of Grade Nine basic in the Sultanate of Oman, and to find out the degree of availability of these skills in the linguistic activities of both parts of the Arabic book "Loghatuna Al Jamilla". A list of major skills (Fluency, Flexibility and Originality) and 21 sub-skills was prepared.
After judging the validity and reliability of the list, it was used to build the analysis card that was used to analyse the (309) activities in the Arabic textbook of grade nine. 
             The findings showed that the creative reading skills in linguistic activities of the reading lessons included in the Arabic book "Loghatuna Al Jamilla" of grade nine existed with a moderate degree (35.25%). The percentage of availability of fluency skill (23.83%) was an average degree, while the degree of availability of flexibility skill was significant, reaching (57.71%) and the availability of originality skill (18.34%) and its availability level was low.
The study recommended developing the Arabic curriculum, focusing upon  developing thinking in general and creative thinking in particular. Redesigning reading lessons to develop the students' creative reading skills.
