Abstract

The study aims at exploring mathematical thinking level for students majored in child education at Princess Alia University College/Balqa' Applied University, and whether it is influenced by their academic progress, academic performance, and place of residence.
To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher developed mathematical thinking test that was applied to 235 students.
Results showed that mathematical thinking level is below agreed upon standard ( 60 % ), and is statistically significant by (α <= 0.50 ).  They also revealed that there were statistically significant differences of mathematical thinking level on account of academic progress and academic performance. However, results showed that there were no statistically significant differences on the basis of place of residence.
In light of the results, the researcher recommends that university study plans incorporate new courses that deal with main mathematical concepts and methods of teaching them. It is also deemed important that teachers be trained for strategies of mathematical thinking.
