The digital divide among students of the college of Education at Shaqraa University and its educational reflections

Abstract

      This study examined the level of the digital divide among students of the college of Education at Shaqraa University and its reflections . The researcher used a mixed method of quantitative and qualitative. A questionnaire used on a sample of (169 students) and a semi-directed interview  on a sample of (278) students in group interviews and (35) students in individual interviews. The researcher used a number of statistical methods, namely: repetitions, percentages , means , t-test and analysis of variance. The study found high levels of digital access to the sample at home and falling in the college building, high intensity and purpose of the use of information and communication technology among respondents, while medium digital divide emerged among respondents in the use of information and communication technology skills. The study revealed the existence of a number of educational repercussions associated with the issue of the digital divide was the relationships within the academic community and the level of academic achievement and the quality of student life. The study recommended   development of the college library and providing them with computers sufficient to meet the students need and raise teaching hours in computer and language  to cover the higher and more complex skills, and held awareness sessions for faculty members in the methods of dealing with the manifestations of the digital divide and its impact on their assessment of students.
