Family processes and its relationship to adaptive and maladaptive perfectionism among talented university students

Abstract

The study aimed at identifying the relationship between family processes and perfectionism dimensions (Adaptive and maladaptive) among talented university students. Sample of the study consisted of 35 talented university students with mean age(20. 2) and (.75)SD  .The researcher used perfectionism inventory prepared by  (Hill,R.W.etal,2004), and Family processes scale prepared by (Alaa Aldin Kafafy,2010). Among the findings revealed by the current study are: 1- A high level of adaptive perfectionism and its dimensions among talented university  students.2- No  statistically significant  correlation relationship was found between students scores means of  adaptive perfectionism dimensions and family processes dimensions, but there are Statistically significant positive  correlation relationship was found between students scores means of maladaptive perfectionism dimensions and family processes dimensions with correlation factor (.444) at (.01). 3-No statistically significant differences between males and females in  adaptive perfectionism and its dimensions, but there are statistically significant differences between males and females in Concern Over Mistakes and  Rumination favoring females. 4-There are Statistically significant differences between students with high and low family processes in striving for excellence and Rumination.  5-Scores in family processes  contributed in predicting their scores in maladaptive perfectionism.
