Existentialism, as a philosophical doctrine, was based on the idea that existence precedes essence, and principles such as freedom, choice, responsibility and obligation were branched from this idea. Existentialism’s activity was not limited to the field of philosophy, but went beyond it to the field of literature, and saw in it a fertile ground for instilling its principles. “Sartre” was not satisfied with presenting his ideas in his philosophical books, but “he resorted to novel and theatrical literature, to make it a trumpet for it. Existentialism has remained within the range of criticism’s arrows. There are those who accused existentialism of the tyranny of individualism, irrationality, and pessimism, and there are those who accused Sartre of the contradiction between his ideas contained in his philosophical books and those he mentioned in the words of his theatrical figures, which prompted the researcher to study samples of Sartre’s texts with the aim of identifying this contradiction. He revealed its causes, and the study confirmed the existence of a contradiction between Sartre’s ideas of freedom, responsibility and commitment, and the behavior and actions of the heroes of his plays. For the recipient's mind to reveal their symbolic levels.
