Analysis of the Prevailing and Preferred Organizational Culture of Kafrelsheikh University using the Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI): A Field Study

Abstract

Over the past few decades, universities around the world are under increasing pressure to adapt quickly to various societal changes, in addition to the aspects of international competitiveness that universities are also facing, which prompted universities to search for ways to enable them to identify the required changes. Organizational culture as a concept based on understanding and analyzing the factors that help universities adapt to the surrounding environmental conditions as well as help them to integrate internally. It serves as a framework or guide that enhances the university's work in terms of performance, effectiveness and competitive position.
 Kafrelsheikh University, as one of the Egyptian universities, aims to provide an academic environment whose primary endeavor is to foster creativity and excellence. Preferred and desirable ones to be available in the future, and the research also aims to reach a set of proposed procedures that help university leaders change unwanted aspects to preferred aspects of their different cultural dimensions, based on the visions of faculty members and their assistants.
Based on the nature and objectives of the research, the researchers applied the Descriptive Approach by collecting data from the members of the study sample using the Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI) to answer questions related to the reality of organizational culture at Kafrelsheikh University as well as its preferred situation. One of the most important findings of the research is that the hierarchical or bureaucratic culture is the prevailing cultural pattern at the University of Kafrelsheikh. The results also indicate that the preferred organizational culture for the members of the study sample is the culture of the tribe (clan).
The research suggested a set of procedures, most notably the university leaders’ work to create a climate for change by agreeing that the preferred mode of the university’s organizational culture is the culture of the tribe (clan). Also to develop plans that allow achieving aspects of the dimensions of this culture within the university, and employing mechanisms such as professional choice, professional mobility Rising, socialization and training, as well as the university's use of its old founders in consolidating desirable cultural manifestations.
