Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the role of social media in enhancing digital citizenship among students of the Faculty of Basic Education in Kuwait. The research adopted a descriptive-analytical methodology and comprised a sample of 522 male and female students from the Faculty of Basic Education at Kuwait. A questionnaire was utilized as the data collection instrument. The results indicated that, from the students' perspective, the role of social media in enhancing the dimensions of citizenship among students of the Faculty of Basic Education in Kuwait was rated highly across all dimensions. Specifically, the highest ranking was assigned to the dimension of (knowledge related to citizenship), followed by (community participation), and lastly (global citizenship). Additionally, the findings revealed statistically significant differences at (α≤0.05) in the mean scores of the sample's estimates on the scale measuring the role of social media in enhancing citizenship dimensions based on the gender variable, with these differences favoring male students. In light of these findings, the study recommended several measures, the most notable of which include intensifying awareness efforts regarding digital laws and policies through social media to ensure that students are fully informed about their digital responsibilities, rights, and duties, and encouraging students to use social media positively to enhance community participation. This can be achieved by organizing online events and initiatives that enable students to express their opinions and share their ideas on community issues.
