Students Readiness for the Adoption of AI Applications in the Educational Process at Kuwait University: in Light of Technological Competence and Academic Orientation

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the readiness level of students from the College of Education at Kuwait University to employ artificial intelligence applications in the educational process in light of technological competence and academic orientation. The study followed a descriptive survey methodology, with a sample consisting of 1,778 students. A questionnaire was used for data collection, consisting of 36 items distributed across two main dimensions. The first dimension, "Readiness of College of Education Students to Employ AI Applications," comprised two aspects: Technological Competence, which included 17 items. And Academic Orientation, which included 8 items. The second dimension focused on "Challenges of Employing AI," comprising 11 items. The study's results indicated that the average scores for the sample's responses regarding the readiness to use AI applications in education, based on essential technological competencies, were high, with an overall mean of 3.97 and a standard deviation of 0.60. The academic orientation dimension ranked first, with a mean score of 4.03 (high level of readiness), followed by the technological competence dimension with a mean score of 2.94. Overall, these results suggest a high level of readiness among the students at the College of Education to integrate AI applications in education, considering basic technological competencies. The results also revealed several challenges impacting the ability to adopt AI in the educational process. These included students' limited technical skills, scarcity of training programs, lack of infrastructure, limited experience in solving technical issues related to AI applications, and concerns about information security and privacy. The study concluded with a set of recommendations aligned with these findings.
