Abstract

The study aimed to enhance the preparation of teachers of Arabic language to speakers of other languages formally through proposing a programme that academically and professionally prepares teachers of Arabic language for non-Arabic speakers to be offered at the faculties of Education. The study adopted a descriptive research approach to survey the current context of the faculties of Education. The study also identifies the standards of foreign language teacher preparation. The results of the survey indicated there are no academic/ educational preparation programmes targeting secondary school graduates that qualify them to be teachers of Arabic language for non-Arabic speakers at the faculties of Education. Therefore, the researcher proposed a framework for preparing teachers of Arabic language for non-Arabic speakers in light of the standards for preparing second language teachers that are both standardized and functionally integrative. The study concluded with a set of recommendations, the most prominent of which are the importance of paying attention to preparing Arabic teachers to speakers of other languages at the faculties of Education by implementing the proposal to verify its effectiveness.
