Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate the degree of awareness of AI ethics in education among higher education students in Kuwait. A descriptive methodology was used, with a specially prepared questionnaire consisting of 43 statements distributed across five axes of AI ethics: justice, fairness, and non-discrimination; privacy and security; transparency and interpretability; responsibility and accountability; and non-harm to social and environmental benefits. Data were collected from a sample of 430 students from various disciplines at some higher education institutions in Kuwait. The results showed that the awareness of ethics related to justice, fairness, non-discrimination, privacy, security, transparency, and interpretability was moderate, while awareness of responsibility, accountability, and non-harm to social and environmental benefits was high. Overall, the degree of awareness of AI ethics was moderate. There were no statistically significant differences in the awareness level based on gender, academic discipline, or study level. Based on these findings, several recommendations were made, including:
- Integrating AI ethics topics into educational curricula.
- Providing specialized training courses and interactive workshops on AI ethics for faculty members and students.
