Abstract

This study aimed to determine the degree of awareness among special education teachers in Kuwait regarding tort liability and its relationship to certain variables. Using a descriptive survey methodology, the study applied a questionnaire to a convenience sample of 172 teachers from special education schools. The questionnaire consisted of 20 items measuring awareness of tort liability, categorized into four dimensions: concept of tort liability, limits of tort liability, supervisory and caregiving roles, and training and qualification. The findings indicated that the overall awareness level was low, with the supervisory and caregiving role ranking first, followed by training and qualification, limits of tort liability, and lastly, the concept of tort liability. Statistically significant differences were found based on gender (favoring female teachers) and years of service (favoring more experienced teachers), while no significant differences were noted concerning the type of disability taught. Based on these results, the study provides recommendations and suggestions to enhance teachers' understanding of tort liability and promote legal awareness in special education schools.
