Abstract

The current research aimed to understand and explain the relationship between mindfulness and academic passion, and predict the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) awareness among students of the Faculty of Education, Alexandria University. The study also sought to examine the differences in gender (male/female) and academic specialization (scientific/literary) in the research variables. Additionally, it aimed to explore the degree to which the dimensions of both mindfulness and academic passion contribute to predicting SDGs awareness among the participating students. The research included 310 students from the Faculty of Education, Alexandria University. The researcher used the Mindfulness Scale (prepared by Abdel-Raqeeb El-Bahairy and others) after verifying its validity, and the Academic Passion Scale and SDGs Awareness Scale (prepared by the researcher) after verifying the psychometric properties of both.
The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences in either mindfulness or academic passion related to gender. However, there were statistically significant differences in SDGs awareness related to gender, favoring females. The results also indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in mindfulness, academic passion, or SDGs awareness related to academic specialization. Additionally, there was no statistically significant interaction between gender and academic specialization in mindfulness, academic passion, or SDGs awareness. Furthermore, the research results revealed a statistically significant positive correlation at the 0.01 level between SDGs awareness and both mindfulness and its dimensions, as well as between SDGs awareness and academic passion and its dimensions. The research findings also revealed the possibility of predicting awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals through the dimensions of mindfulness (describing, observing, acting with awareness, non-judging of inner experience, and non-reactivity to inner experience), as well as through the dimension of academic passion (harmonious passion). Altogether, these factors contribute to 82.9% of the total variance in awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals.
