This study explores the nature of the relationship between social media addiction, psychological alienation, and cognitive distortions among youth in Kuwait. The study sample consisted of 453 young males and females aged between 20 and 50 years. A cognitive distortions scale was developed, along with scales for social media addiction and psychological alienation, to collect data. The results showed a positive correlation between social media addiction on the one hand and feelings of psychological alienation and cognitive distortions on the other. The results also showed that younger people have a higher sense of psychological alienation than older people, and that young people do not differ in psychological alienation, social media addiction, and cognitive distortions depending on the educational level. The results also showed that unmarried, divorced, and widowed people have a higher level of cognitive distortions, social media addiction, and psychological alienation than married people. The study recommends focusing on providing guidance programs for youth, which aim to reduce the severity of cognitive distortions, psychological alienation, and social media addiction.
