Abstract

 
This study aims to examine anxiety differences between students in the two phases of pre-university education and university education. In addition, this study will identify gender differences in anxiety as well as the interaction of both genders and education level in anxiety. Further, it will rank anxiety symptoms according to gender and education level. 
This study consisted of a sample of 1400 students, of which 700 (350 males and 350 females) were pre-university students and 700 (350 males and 350 females) university students. Beck Anxiety Inventory-BAI was self-administered to the sample. 
The results revealed a lack of significant differences in the prevalence rates of anxiety between students in pre-university education and university education. Moreover, the result revealed an interaction effect between gender and education level in anxiety.
 There was also a significant difference between pre-university education and university education in anxiety level in which university students showed significantly higher anxiety means than pre-university students. Furthermore, females had higher anxiety rates than males in both pre-university education and university education.
Finally, results of the study revealed different ranking orders of anxiety symptoms  among genders and education level.
