The relative contribution of both positive thinking and Future time perspective in predicting Emotional Regulation Strategies for Damanhour University students

Abstract

The research aimed to identify the nature of the relationship between positive thinking and future time  perspective and emotional regulation strategies, as well as the possibility of predicting theemotional regulation strategies in the light of both positive thinking and the future time perspective among university students.The sample of the current study consisted of (80) male and female students from the first year of the scientific and literary divisions at the Faculty of Education, Damanhour University, with (40) male and female students for the scientific people, (40) male and female students for the literary people, whose ages ranged between “18-19” years with an average age (18.9 years) and a standard deviation (0.122) and the study used the Positive Thinking Scale (prepared by the researcher), the future time perspective scale, prepared by Salah Sharif Abdel-Wahab (2011), the identification of emotional regulation strategies prepared by (Garnefski & Kraaij, (2007) translate of the researcher, and the results were reached The research indicated that there is a relationship between positive thinking and emotional regulation strategies, and the existence of a relationship between the future time perspective and emotional regulation strategies The results also showed a contribution to the future time perspective with its motivation and cognitive dimensions in predicting emotional regulation strategies, and the contribution of the dimensions of positive thinking except (emotional control and positive acceptance of others) in predicting emotional regulation strategies.
