Proposed Strategies to Mitigate Organizational Deviance in Public Primary Schools in Minya Governorate, Egypt

Abstract

This study aimed to assess organizational deviance behaviors in public primary schools in Minya Governorate, Egypt, focusing on four key areas: poor relationships with students and their parents, strained relationships with colleagues, issues with administration and supervision, and negative behaviors towards the school. The study also explored the significance of differences in responses regarding these behaviors, based on variables such as job grade, gender, years of experience, and school location. Moreover, it proposed strategies to reduce organizational deviance in primary schools.
The study used a descriptive methodology, gathering direct data through a questionnaire that highlighted various negative behaviors observed in these schools. The sample included 812 principals and teachers from public primary schools in Minia Governorate for the 2023/2024 academic year.
Key results include: the overall level of organizational deviance across all dimensions was reported as (low) with a percentage of (47.45%). The dimension with the highest response was the fourth (negative behaviors towards the school) at (49.31%), followed by the third dimension (problems with administration and supervision) at (48.11%), the second dimension (strained relationships with colleagues) at (47.26%), and the lowest response was for the first dimension (issues with students and their parents) at (44.97%). The study found no statistically significant differences in responses based on gender and job grade but did find statistically significant differences based on years of experience and school location. The study concluded with recommendations for strategies and mechanisms to address and reduce organizational deviance in public primary schools in Egypt.
