Abstract

This study aimed to explore the perceptions of students from the College of Education at Kuwait University regarding the use of augmented reality technology in English language teaching and learning. The study adopted a descriptive survey methodology, suitable for the research's objectives and nature, by surveying and analyzing students' opinions to understand their perceptions about employing augmented reality technology in teaching and learning English. A questionnaire was developed, comprising two sections that measure the perceptions of students from the College of Education about integrating augmented reality technology in teaching and learning English.
The study sample consisted of 153 students specializing in English at the College of Education, enrolled during the second semester of the academic year 2023/2024. The findings revealed that these students' perceptions regarding using augmented reality in educational processes (teaching and learning) were high and supportive of its application in education. This was true for both dimensions: the dimension concerning the use of augmented reality in the teaching process and the dimension related to the learning process. The students’ perceptions were similarly high and supportive of its application in both dimensions.
In light of these results, recommendations were formulated to facilitate the effective use of augmented reality technology in English language teaching and learning. These recommendations also emphasized preparing future teachers in colleges of education to harness this technology, contributing to achieving desired educational objectives.
